Amidst an abundance of green, a few russet leaves wave languidly. I think about how difficult it is not to anticipate, to be in the moment, to stay with summer—the heat, and the deer flies, and the overgrown paths, and the feeling that life is somehow getting away from us as August approaches. Here now is a message from the universe: stay with summer, it is perfect. Now is perfect.

I find the aged remnants of human life compelling. Surrounded by trees thirty feet tall, the rusted can appears on a path I am sure I have walked many times. It both fascinates and surprises me when I come across such detritus in the woods, though I am not sure why. Perhaps I imagine myself alone here, and then inevitably I meet with ghosts.
