About the Author

I’ve worked as a reporter, writer, researcher, communications consultant, health promoter, teacher, and artist. I am getting ready to defend my doctoral dissertation in Cultural Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston. My work is focused on the stories we tell each other about food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty.

I’ve been writing fiction and poetry all of my life. Along with my dissertation, I’m currently working on Stuffing the Bus, a middle grade graphic novel (with illustrator Amanda White), and my third and fourth novels for adults, Tintamarre and The Blue Bowl.

My partner and I live in rural Nova Scotia. We have a perfect dog and magnificently imperfect children and grandchildren, all of whom I love “bigger than the soap.”
